What is a boc-3?

A BOC-3 is a form that is required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for all interstate motor carriers operating in the United States. The form designates a process agent in each state in which a carrier operates and serves as a legal representative for the carrier in that state.

The BOC-3 form helps ensure that carriers have a designated agent for service of process in each state where they operate, making it easier for legal documents to be served on the carrier in the event of a legal dispute. It is also intended to promote compliance with federal regulations and ensure that carriers have the necessary representation in each state where they conduct business.

Carriers are required to file a BOC-3 form with the FMCSA before they can receive operating authority to operate as an interstate motor carrier. Failure to file the form can result in fines and other penalties.
